Rogue Gimmicks

Tricks of the Trade – This ability allows you to transfer all the threat you generate to your group or raid member for the next 6 seconds. In addition to this that player will also deal 15% more damage.
Cloak of Shadows – This spell instantly removes most harmful effects from you and grants you 90% chance to resist any incoming effects.
Feint – Even though this ability is useless until its last rank I have to mention it as so many rogues simply don’t know this. Usually this ability only reduces your threat by an insignificant amount. The last rank however also grants you a 50% reduction to area of effect attacks for 6 seconds. This is very powerful, especially in end gaming raiding it can easily be the difference between dying and surviving.

Evasion – This adds an additional 50% chance for you to dodge melee attacks and 25% chance to dodge ranged attacks. Who cares you don’t have plate armor when they can’t hit you?
Sap – This ability covered before in the stealth section has so many uses. From reducing the amount of monsters you have to fight at once to annoying players of the opposite faction you will find many uses for it as you play your rogue.
Slice and Dice – Now I will admit this ability is a bit dull in general as it adds a buff that gives you 40% attack speed (at rank 2). However, when you consider how quick this makes you attack (especially if you’re already using daggers) then consider that you will be triggering your poisons more often you suddenly see loads of damage numbers pop up on your screen. That is surprisingly cool!
Blind – This ability will disorient the target for 10 seconds, broken by any damage. Disoriented is a state in which the target can’t control their character.
Vanish – Usually you can’t go into stealth while in combat. This ability allows you to quickly enter an advanced form of stealth for 10 seconds while also breaking movement impairing effects.
Distract – This nifty gadget allows you to direct the gaze of your enemies. For monsters it will focus them to look at a certain area for a certain amount of time. This allows you to set up ways to easily sneak past them with stealth. On the other hand players are often moving. It is still useful though, as distracting a player stops a player and forces their gaze upon the distracted area. This forces them to start moving again by giving the command again which is useful if you want to sneak up on somebody’s who is running around on his mount.
Shadow Dance – This subtlety talent allows you to use any stealth opener without being in stealth for 6 seconds!
Shadow Step – This talent deep down in the subtlety tree allows you to teleport behind your target increasing your movement speed by 70% for 3 seconds and increasing the damage of your next ability by 20%.
Preparation – This subtlety talent instantly removes the cooldown  of your evasion, sprint, vanish, cold blood and shadow step abilities.
Killing Spree – This combat talent shortly turns you invulnerable as you warp between enemies dealing damage with both your weapons. You will deal 5 combined attacks in .5 second intervals. As long as it is active you will deal 20% more damage and you are able to hit the same target multiple times.
Adrenaline Rush – There are just those times where you need some more energy. This combat talent  doubles your energy regeneration for 15 seconds allowing you to use twice as many abilities as you would usually be able to do in that interval.
Blade Flurry – This combat talent increases your attack speed by 20% and allows your attacks to hit an additional target. Nuff said
Mutilate – This deep mutilate talent is a dagger only attack that deals weapon damage with both weapons and deals 20% bonus damage against poisoned targets.
Cut to the Chase – The main part of a rogue damage rotation is keeping your Slice and Dice (attack speed buff) up. This talent causes your eviscerate and envenom (both combo finishers) to restore your Slice and Dice to its 5 combo point duration allowing you to use other finishers with your combo points.
Deadly Brew – Having just 2 weapons you can only have 2 different poisons, 1 for each weapon. This talent makes your wound, instant and mind numbing poison to also apply crippling poison to your target. This means that by simply hitting a target you could make them take less healing, reduce their movement speed AND increase their casting times.
Seal Fate – This talent gives you an additional talent point whenever you critically hit with a combo generating attack. This means that if your mutilate critically hits it will give you 3 combo points (instead of the normal 2).

Choosing your profession

An excellent choice for a profession combination is skinning/leatherworking. This allows you to gain your own hides with skinning to level your leatherworking. This will give you the ability to make your own armor as you progress through the game.
Another option is to go herbalism/alchemy. This allows you to gather your own herbs to make health potions with. Being a leather armor wearer rogues can easily get overwhelmed if they overplay it meaning a healthy stock of health potions is very desired. This on top of the fact that rogues are very gear (attribute) dependant being able to make potions that buff your stats, such as agility or critical strike rating, will greatly increase your strength.
Mining/Skinning would be another option for those rogues who simply wish to make as much money as possible. The rogue’s damage allows them to quickly kill beasts to skin where their stealth will allow them to reach the hardest to reach nodes without killing anything.

The verdict

The rogue is an excellent class for any player. Even though it is quite gear dependant making it quite hard to get through the lower levels you have the ability to easily avoid or lock mobs down. On top of this you are able to progress into a top damage dealer making you highly desired in end game raids. Another plus is that the rogue can level with any talent tree giving you much choice in your playstyle. Whether you prefer to sneak around, go toe to toe or poke them to death with your daggers and poisons it’s in the end all up to you.
