The Death Knight Gimmicks
The Death Knight gets quite a few interesting abilities and I will go over a few of them here.
Anti Magic Shell- Every death knights get the ability to use this to soak up 75% of magic damage dealt (up to 50% of your own health) for 5 seconds,
Anti Magic Zone- As an unholy death knight there’s the option to get this talent granting you the ability to place down a field in which all your allies absorb up to 75% of magic damage taken.

Summon Gargoyle- An unholy death knight's final talent allows them to use runic power to summon a gargoyle for 30 seconds every 2 minutes to shoot at their enemies, really what more could you want?!
Dancing Rune Weapon- The final talent point for blood death knights allows them to summon a sword on a target which will mimic all of the death knight’s attacks for 12 seconds dealing 50% of the damage onto that target and reducing damage taken.
Unholy Frenzy- An unholy talent which gives the target 20% melee haste for 30 seconds. If you want fellow melee players to like you this is all it takes. Of course you could just use it yourself and bring on the hurt with your own trusty weapon!
Rime- Talking about synergy in a talent tree? As a frost death knight your final talent grants you an ability called howling blast. What this talent does is give you a 15% chance when using obliterate (which is used whenever possible!) to reset the cooldown and removing the rune cost on your next howling blast. Yes please!
Army of the dead- Always wanted to be like the lich king? Well this ability allows you to summon a ton of uncontrollable ghouls which swarm around your enemies smacking them around and forcing them to attack your ghouls.
Death and Decay- Always fancied the Lich’s Warcraft 3 ability called Death and Decay? Well no longer as you get to use it to your heart’s content! At the pricy cost of 1 of each rune you can deal damage in a wide radius and causing extra threat to mobs increasing their likelihood to focus on you.
Death Grip- This is definitely a case of saving the best for last. This allows you to pull most enemy targets right onto you so you can start smacking their face in. Blinking mages are a concern no more! Make no mistake this ability also taunts the target forcing computer controller targets to attack you. Don’t death grip monsters that will kick your ass!
Dark Transformation - This unholy talent allows you to ocassionally turn your regular ghoul pet into a much stronger powerful monstrosity for 30 seconds greatly increasing it's damage and abilities.
Choosing a profession
This is a tough part of being a Death Knight as you start at level 55 meaning you’re well ahead of the starting zones where you find the resources to level your professions. That aside a good choice is always mining and blacksmithing as you can gather your own resources while turning them into the weapons and armor you desire. The only downside is that it’d take some time investment before you could start using the crafted items.
Because of this I would highly suggest getting mining and skinning as soon as possible. After you get them up to your own level range (which would be around 250-300 if you do it as soon as you leave the starting zone for Death Knights) you will be able to make some extra money. You have to remember that you start with better than average gear as a death knight and as much making some extra money and spending it whenever you find a good upgrade on the auction house is most likely your best bet.
The Verdict
As great as it is to start at level 55 when making a death knight you also have to have a level 55 character to create your first death knight. Because of this newbies are unfortunately locked out of this class until their first character gets well into the game. That aside the Death Knight is still a great and unique class. Once you make your way out of the starting area you will suddenly have a lot of abilities and talents at your disposal which you can play with. If you can handle this you can have a lot of fun with finding the Death Knight Play style that suits you best.
The Death Knight gives you a strong damage dealer or tank as you get into the end game content giving you plenty versatility in your playstyle.
