Damage Dealing

Click HERE For the Ultimate Guide to World of WarcraftThe last category to be covered is classes that deal damage. A general rule of thumb is that when geared equally and played properly most classes will deal about the same damage in a raid situation that is optimised for both classes. As such your main focus on picking a damage dealing class should be the fashion in which it deals damage and whether it appeals to you.

Death Knight - As a death knight you can choose between dealing heavy physical, frost or shadow damage depending on which talent tree you chose to play. As a frost death knight you will focus on dual wielding dealing high physical damage on top of a scary amount of frost damage through your spells. As unholy you will find yourself focusing on your pets. Even though you will deal much damage by spreading your diseases and using your weapon strikes, your permanent ghoul pet will deal a good amount of your damage. On top of this you can summon your gargoyle for a short time to deal extra burst damage.

Druid - The druid has 2 different specialisations to deal damage. If you wish to deal melee damage you will have to shapeshift into cat form. In this form you will attack very fast and focus on keeping your bleeds on the target. Once you've done this you will be wanting to use your filler attacks untill you need to reapply said bleeds.
If you are more interested in being a caster druid you will edge towards the balance tree. At higher levels you will be able to shapeshift into a sort of owl form, greatly increasing your caster abillities on top of your armor. You will focus on keeping your damage over time effects on the target. After that you will use solar and lunar spells to damage your enemies. On top of this you are able to temporarily summon treants to damage your opponents.

Hunter - As a hunter you focus on dealing damage from ranged while you will have a pet that is (usually) attacking the target in melee. You have talent trees that focus on buffing up your pet, your own ranged damage or your survivability through buffing your health and traps. Make no mistake in thinking that this tree (the survival tree) doesn't have anything to increase your damage as it is the best specialisation for dealing damage as a hunter just hitting end game content.

Mage - The mage has 3 different trees focusing on dealing damage. As a frost mage however you are focused more on control, unfortunately this comes at the cost of damage meaning it is not a viable spec if you wish to maximise your damage.
The arcane tree on the other hand is full of damage. This tree focuses on fast cast spells that synergize with eachother in such a way that you have to be on the ball with switching between them.
At last the fire tree focuses on slow casting, hard hitting spells. If you choose this spec you focus on dealing critical hits as much as possible as you get a talent that deals extra damage over time whenever your fire spells critically hit. On top of this there's another talent that allows you to instantly cast Pyroblast (which is your hardest hitting spell, usually on a 6 second casting time) if you critically strike with 2 fire spells in a row.

Paladin - If you choose to deal damage as a paladin you will be going for the retribution tree. This talent tree focuses on boosting your melee damage on top of your short to medium range holy spells to deal as much damage as possible. As a retribution paladin you will be able to deal massive amounts of damage in short intervals allowing you to quickly burn through mobs.

Priest - If you wish to deal damage on your priest the only viable tree is the shadow tree. This tree focuses on placing all your damage over time effects on the target after which you use filler abilities. These abillities include a short casting time nuke on a cooldown, and a channeled ability which deals damage over 3 seconds while slowing the target's movement speed.

Rogue - As a rogue you get 3 different talent trees all focusing on different aspects of the class. If you choose the mutilate tree you focus on dealing damage with your daggers on top of boosting the potency of your poisons. You will attack for low damage per hit, but attack so fast that this is totally irrelevant.
If you prefer the combat specialisation you will focus on using non-dagger one handed weapons. You are more capable of going toe to toe with other melee classes as you deal more steady melee damage. On top of this you get many cooldowns to temporarily boost your damage.
As a subtlety rogue you will focus on striking your foes from stealth. As such this tree isn't focused on dealing the steady damage required for dealing maximum damage. Instead you are able to deal huge amounts of burst damage in short amount of time while having high control of your opponents through stuns and disorients.

Shaman - The shaman gets a melee and caster tree to deal damage with. As an enhancement shaman you focus on melee damage. You will be dualwielding non-dagger one handed weapons. With your powerful weapon enchantments you will deal a mix of physical and nature/fire damage to your targets. On top of this you bring many buffs to power up yourself and your allies. As a finisher you are able to summon spirit wolves to deal damage and heal you in the process.
As an elemental shaman you will focus on dealing elemental damage from range. You will have a multitude of fast casting spells to quickly overwhelm your enemy with nature and fire damage. On top of this you bring many unique caster buffs to strengthen yourself and your allies.

Warlock - The warlock uses its dark arts to defeat its foes. As a warlock you get 3 different talent trees to choose your way of dealing damage. As an affliction warlock you focus on dealing damage through applying your damage over time effects to the target. Once they are all up you will cast your nukes on the target untill you have to reapply your DoTs (damage over time spells).
As a demonology lock you focus on improving your demons to deal more damage. On top of dealing a lot of fire and shadow damage yourself you will find many foes crumbling under your demonic might.
Your last choice is a destruction warlock. This specialisation has a wide array of hard hitting fire spells that quickly finishes off your foes. You have many combinations that deal some of the highest burst damage in the game.

Warrior - As a warrior you have 2 talent trees specialising on dealing damage. The arms tree focuses on two handed weapons. On top of the powerful bleeds you can apply to the target you will find yourself quickly pummeling your enemy to the ground.
As a fury warrior you will dual wield. At lower levels this is only one handed weapons, but at higher levels you are also able to dual wield two handed weapons.

And here we come to the end of my class guide. As you can see there are many classes that can all perform many roles.
