World of Warcraft Warrior Guide
The warrior class brings brute force to World of Warcraft. They are able to use every weapon bar 1 to march onto their foes. If you chose to play a more defensive warrior you will be able to pull out your shield and defend with your allies with more finesse than any other class. Whether you prefer the brutish nature of the warrior, his protective abilities or a mix between the two the warrior will give you an interesting experience.
Getting Started
Interestingly enough, the warrior can be every race in World of Warcraft… bar 1! Blizzard decided that lore goes against Blood Elves being warriors and excluded them for now. On the other hand this leaves you with many other races to choose from and I will give you some things you can expect from warriors and racials. Expertise – Many races get a bonus to expertise with specific weapons, this reduces the chance an enemy will dodge or parry your attacks. It speaks for itself that this is very powerful for a warrior. Dwarves get their bonus to one and two handed maces. Humans get a bonus to both one and two handed maces and swords. Orcs get their bonus with fist weapons and one and two handed axes. Do note that for one handed weapons you will rarely use any besides swords and maces in the later game as all damage focused specializations for warriors use 2 handed weapons one way or another and only swords and maces are itemized for tanking with (swordNboard warrior).

Player versusPlayer – Dwarves can remove poisons/diseases and bleed effects once every 2 minutes. Gnomes have the ability to remove a movement impairing or root effect once every 1 minute and 45 seconds. Humans get a racial that removes the need of a PvP trinket (very powerful). Draenei get self heal that scales with your gear. For the horde, orcs get a 15% reduction in stun durations. Taurens get war stomp which gives them an area of effect 2 second stun. Trolls get a passive which reduces the duration of movement impairing effects by 15%. Forsaken get the ability to remove a charm/sleep/fear effect once every 2 minutes. Lastly Blood Elves can silence in a small radius around themselves for 2 seconds. Misc. – Draenei get a raid wide aura that increases hit chance by 1% allowing them to gear differently. Orcs get a racial that gives them a significant attack power boost for 15 seconds. Trolls can boost their attack speed by 20% for 10 seconds.
Even though some races may seem to get more powerful racials than other, unless you decide to focus on Player versus Player only none of the racials make such a difference that it is worth giving up your personal preference. Don’t play a race that might do 1% better at something at the cost of hating how it looks!
Warrior Talent Trees
The warrior gets 3 unique talent trees. Two of these focus on dealing damage while one is focused on protecting allies and absorbing damage.
Arms - This tree specializes in 2 handed weapon damage while dealing additional damage with bleed effects. If you like the thought of swinging a big weapon around you will find yourself at home here. Fury – This tree specializes in dual wielding. The nifty part about this tree is that at the lower levels you can only dual wield one handed weapons (level 20+). However once you get closer to the bottom of the talent tree you will be able to pick up a talent that allows you to dual wield 2 handed weapons! Besides this the fury tree focuses on reckless attacking, taking extra damage to deal more damage doesn’t concern you! Protection – This tree is for those who wish to play the tank or meatshield for their allies. You will be able to keep them safe while making yourself as tough as possible to crack. Talents increasing your shield efficiency and the ability to keep monsters glued to you is key.
Warrior Mechanics
Rage – The main mechanic of the warrior is their rage system. How it works is that once you deal damage you will gain a certain amount of rage. The same goes for when you take damage. Your rage can vary from 0-100. If you’re not engaged in combat your rage will slowly decay back to 0. Most of your abilities will have a cost in rage tied to them. This means that to use an ability your rage resource will have to be high enough to use it. To play your warrior efficiently you will have to be able to use your abilities sparingly and tactically to make sure you never find yourself needing an ability while you have 0 rage.
Stances – The second major mechanic of the warrior is their stances. They have three stances: Defensive Stance – Decreases damage taken by 10%, damage done by 5% while greatly increasing your threat generated. Berserker Stance – Your critical hit chance is increased by 3% and all damage taken is increased by 5% Battle Stance – Increases the armor penetration of your abilities by 10%. As you can see the bonuses tied to these stances are pretty powerful by themselves. This is just the beginning though. A lot of your abilities are tied to certain stances. If you wish you change stance it means you have to trigger a global cooldown (This is a mechanic that causes most abilities and spells in the game to have a 1.5 delay between each other even if they are instant cast prevent the spam of abilities). For example, as a warrior you get 2 abilities to interrupt spells. One is Shield Bash the other is Pummel. Shield Bash is only usable in Defensive and Battle Stance whereas pummel can only be used in berserker stance. Since shield bash requires a shield it means that if you’re using other types of weapons you will have to be in berserker stance if you want to interrupt a target’s spell. As you play your warrior you will find yourself having to incorporate changes stances while in combat to make the best use of your abilities. This is often called stance dancing.
