Into the game

If you decide to play a Paladin you will first have to chose a race. If you play for the horde, currently your only choice is being a blood elf. The alliance on other hand can choose between being a dwarf and a human. In general the race doesn’t matter a whole lot for Paladins. Paladin leveling especially shows no benefit between either race. As such aesthetics should be your main decision as you pick your paladin race.

The Paladin Roles

Healer (Holy) - If you decide to specialize into the holy tree you will strengthen yourself as a healer. As a paladin healer you will be able to throw out the most powerful single heals and at later levels even have any heal you cast heal both your target and another person. If you chose this role you will be in very high demand as paladin healers are currently very powerful with their heals, buffs and auras.

Tanking (Protection) – For the people choosing the protection tree, you will find yourself being a very sturdy tank. Not only will you be hard to kill but you will have monsters sticking to you like glue as your Area of Effect threat is unmatched. As a protection tank you will find yourself using damaging and defensive abilities with your shield and weapon. Once again this comes with the powerful auras and buffs that a paladin always brings. In the current state of the game protection paladins are slightly favored over other tanks.

Damage (Retribution) – This specialization has had its ups and downs as the game evolved with many people frowning upon it. Don’t make that discourage you as the paladin burst damage is one of the best allowing you to quickly slash through mobs or other players! Furthermore for sustained damage you are also able to do amazing amounts of damage if you have the gear and skill to properly use your abilitiess. As a retribution paladin you will find yourself using a mix between many diverse melee and semi caster abilities to quickly make your opponents drop. Beyond that retribution brings the standard paladin auras and buffs, but at higher level also a buff for 10 players that increases mana regeneration which is a must have for raiding.
