World of Warcraft Mage Guide
The World of Warcraft Mage is the choice of class for players who like their usual mage class in online games, or simply enjoy bringing in the trouble from afar. It’s the kind of class you will really enjoy if you want to deal damage from range while still being capable of making sure you keep your enemies far away from you, as you won’t last long when they start hitting you. Of all mages I tried in other games you won’t see one that requires this much focus and skill to keep your elemental fury going.

Getting Started.
Currently you have 6 choices for picking a race for your mage. Each race gets 3 options. There are certainly some slight advantages for certain races per faction. If you wish to do damage berserking from trolls will allow you to cast faster for a short amount of time which is a huge boon to mages.. On the player versus player side of things humans gets a racial which removes the need for a player versus player trinket freeing up a slot. Undead get their fear, sleep and charm remover while blood elf gets a small area of effect silence which also restores some mana. All of these three are very powerful in player versus player. I can’t stress this enough however: Before you pick your race go to the Warcraft armory or find clips on youtube of the casting animations of every race. A lot of people pick a race with a heavy casting class such as a mage and end up not liking the animations at all. Do some research!
The Mage Abilities
A mage’s primary and usually seen as only role is dealing damage. The difference between the 3 talent trees is whether you use fire, frost or arcane energies to deal your damage. Each tree uses a unique mechanic to make the spells deal more damage and make them more interesting.
As such frost gives you a chance to freeze your opponent when casting frost spells while other talents in the frost tree grant you 50% crit chance and 100% increased critical damage against frozen targets. Another cool talent for the frost tree is that you’re given a temporary water elemental pet which has a ranged root and also attacks your target of choice. The Frost tree is usually seen as the gimmick tree and is hugely popular for player versus player and leveling as it gives you a lot of control.
On the other hand fire focuses on high hitting , slow casting spells. Even though your critical hits won’t hit as hard, with some help from talents your critical hits ignite your target dealing a percentage of the damage over time. Another fun talent is hot streak which, whenever you critically hit twice in a row with direct fire spells, allows you to instantly cast Pyroblast. Now if that spell name doesn’t instill fear into you I’ll elaborate further. Pyroblast is a talent you pick up early in the fire tree which is a very slow casting spell (5 SECONDS!!) dealing huge damage. Now getting an instant cast version is going to be lovely don’t you think? Fire also gets 2 talented abilities which deal area of effect damage. Dragon’s Breath enemies (making them run around in circles while being uncontrollable) . Living Bomb is your final talent in the fire tree and first puts a dot on your target for 12 seconds. If it is dispelled or if it runs its course it will explode dealing damage in an area around the target.
The final tree is arcane. The unfortunate aspect of arcane is that you don’t get your core arcane spell till you hit outlands. But once you do it’s really cool. You get a talent called missile barrage which gives your arcane blast spell (yes the one that you get way too late in your leveling experience) a chance to reduce the channeling time of your arcane missiles. Now it might sound kind of dull but once you see it in action you feel like a turret and it’s totally awesome! Arcane also gets an ability that increases all spell damage you deal by 20% but also increases the mana cost by 20%. Definitely great for those moments when you just feel like your mage STILL isn’t hitting hard enough.
