World of Warcraft Gold Strategies   

Many people find themselves lacking in gold to purchase their gear, enchant and gem it. All the while buying consumables to keep raiding and hiring another player to do the Zul’Gurub runs for the mounts oh it just gets so expensive! Fortunately I’m here to give you some gold earning tips.

This guide full of gold secrets works for any class and will bring you plenty of wealth as long as you follow it closely. Anyway, let’s get back to my World of Warcraft Gold Guide. 

1.      Grinding 

The most well known and dreaded way of making money in most MMOs, and World of Warcraft is no different. Quite a few people spend a lot of time killing a certain profitable mob over and over to get their cash rolling in. This could be farming mobs that steadily drop items that sell well. Think cloth items for tailoring or animals for skinning. Or people that go all or nothing with mobs that drop vanity pets like the whelpling from the wetlands or the disgusting ooze ling from felwood and the plaguelands. Be original and you will find a good grinding spot! 

2.      Professions 

A lot of people rant about the use of professions. Well, for those who know how to use them cash certainly isn’t a problem. Selling cut gems on the auction house with jewelcrafting, or disenchanting items and selling the materials or simply putting enchantment scrolls on the auction house makes a lot of money if you decide your time efficiently and learn how the market works. 

On the other hand if you don’t have the starting capital it isn’t easy to make proper money with some of these professions. I know that when I made my money with jewelcrafting throughout burning crusade and wrath of the lich king I didn’t really start waking up to 1k+++ G worth of sales in my mail  every day until I had a proper amount of gold to start investing a lot in the gems. 

Because of this you can also chose to go with a combination of herbalism, skinning and/or mining. and simply sell the raw materials on the Auction House. This is always a good market as all the people making money in the fashion from the former paragraph all buy their materials from the auction house. 

A third option would be mixing a gathering profession with a production profession. As such you could mine your own ores and gems and then prospect+cut them and sell these on the auction house through jewelcrafing. 

3.      Limited Supply or long distance recipes 

Another clever way of making money is buying items that are often used but are only sold in limited supply by vendors all over the World of Warcraft. An example would be the recipe for Pendant of the Agate shield which is only sold in Menethil Bay (Wetlands) for the alliance. This recipe is a key part of leveling Jewelcrafting through the 120-150 bracket. Certain people may not know they can simply travel to wetlands to get this recipe and just check the auction house. Others are just too lazy and would rather pay extra than spend their time travelling to get it. Either way it’s a nice little trick to make some money. 

A better example for this would the annoying enchanting recipes that you NEED to get but are found in WINTERSPRING and MOONGLADE. Which are both annoying zones to get to unless you’re a druid. As such a lot of the wealthier people that just wish to quickly level their enchanting without leaving their trusty auction house and mailbox combination would pay considerable extra money just so they don’t have to travel the whole way. 

4.      Novelty Items 

Another excellent money maker is simply making good use of people’s interest in constantly wanting new things to do in the game. A good aspect of this are the non-combat vanity pets that are in World of Warcraft. In some cases this goes back to 1. Grinding, as a lot of pets are drops, can make you a lot of money. Another option is doing the argent tournament dailies and farming up the faction pets from that and selling these over the neutral auction house to the other faction. It’s the only way for the opposite faction to get the pets and as such they will sell.  Do note that you have to be at least level 77 to do these quests.  

This also goes for certain cheap vendor bought pets. The alliance can’t get the cockroaches the horde can get from Undercity unless they buy them from the neutral auction house through other players. 

Another aspect of the novelty items are those items that change your appearance. For example, the deviate fish is a cooked item that can easily be fished from a low level zone. One of the effects of the fish is that it can turn you into a pirate which turns out to be a very popular form! If you can get your hands on a recipe you can quickly make a lot of money cooking yourself some fish. 

5.      Seasonal events 

Another profitable event Blizzard kindly added in are the Seasonal events. These include Halloween, Christmas, Easter and many more, some of which unique to the Warcraft universe. The profitable part is that if you prepare for upcoming events by gathering materials you can quickly make a lot of money from items which are usually USELESS! For example, from May 1th-7^th it is Children’s Week in the World of Warcraft. One of the achievements requires you to eat certain things with your orphan. One of these is a Delicious Chocolate Cake. The ingredients for these are mostly vendor bought. However if you decide to stack up on the mageroyal and the small eggs which are the only two ingredients which aren’t vendor bought you can make a lot of cakes and sell them on the auction house for outrageous prices. Usually you won’t even be able to sell the cakes never mind the eggs. However during the 2009 Orphan event I was selling EACH EGG for 5-10g each and the complete cakes for around 100g each. I suppose I don’t have to mention that I made a lot of money from just being prepared? As a kind note the next time an event comes along that requires small eggs you can farm tons of them in front of Silvermoon City from the dragonhawks. 

Although this is an example for seasonal events it also comes down to a general note of simply expecting what will become popular and taking a risk on it. Whenever a new expansion comes out materials will usually sky rocket in price. For example when Inscription launched with Wrath of the Lich King the underused herbs suddenly got really expensive and anybody that had the foresight of stocking up made piles of money. Try to expect such situations and you’ll be good on money for a whole expansion before it has even started!
