Anyway, let’s get back to my World of Warcraft Druid Guide.

Getting started

The druid is the most limited class as it comes to picking races. In fact, you are stuck to either being a tauren or a night elf for your respective faction. Fortunately, if you don’t really like these races you could read in the previous paragraph that you won’t be spending much time in your human form.

As you start your druid it will be quite awkward for the first 10 levels. This is because you have to play as a semi caster until you get your quest for bear form at level 10. If you don’t like this part don’t make it hold you back as the druid is one of those classes that doesn’t really get together until around level 30 when you have more of your bear abilities and your cat form is also starting to come together.

The Druid Roles

The druid is 1 of the 2 classes that can perform every unique role in World of Warcraft, namely healing, dealing damage and tanking. Unlike the other class, paladins, which can also do this druids also have the option of being a powerful ranged damage dealer. Another interesting thing to note is that the feral talent tree covers both your cat and bear form. This means that both your close combat damage and your tanking is covered in one single tree.

Tanking (Feral-Bear)- The druid has been a popular tank for the past few years. Their unique bear form which gives them higher armor and health than the other tanks makes them a favorite amongst most healers. With the way itemization works you will be tanking in a lot of damage dealing gear allowing you to do considerable damage while tanking as your gear improves making it easier to keep monsters on you as well.

Damage(Feral-Cat)-Arguably the hardest specialization to master for dealing damage, for those that do, cat form pumps out massive amounts of damage. The key to being a good cat is making sure you keep a watch on your timers. You will put bleeds, which deal damage over time, on your enemy while keeping up your short self buff which massively increases your damage. There’s also mangle which applies a debuff to the target increasing the bleeding damage they take. This means you have to watch a lot of timers. On top of that you also get a chance to make any ability free of cost. When this happens you always have to use shred meaning you have to be on the ball at every moment to maximize your damage. If you’re looking for a challenge while still being able to deal the most damage the cat is your stop!

Damage(Balance)- The caster druid, often called moonkin for their unique form which they can get at lvl 40 from talents, uses a slow and fast casting nuke together with damage over time spells to deal damage. Even though your damage is rather chance based if the stars do align you will be able to pump out masses of damage. Looking past the damage the moonkin also brings every caster buff in the game besides 1. This makes most raid leaders consider them a must have.

Healer(Restoration)-The restoration druid, often called tree for their unique tree of life form able to be had from level 50 onwards, is a healer which specializes mostly in heals over time. This allows you to keep heals steadily rolling in on multiple targets. Even though you’ll be struggling for mana if you decide to actively heal one target you will rarely find raids not taking druids for high end content because of their ability to top of their fellow raid members.

Druid mechanic

Druids are all centered about shape shifting into other forms allowing them to be more powerful in a specific roles. It is worth noting that changing in and out of a form removes any roots and snares currently in effect on you. You are able to change how your bear and cat forms look by changing your race’s hair style and color. You can visit a barber at any time to change your appearance for a small fee, so don’t be worried about having to research this before creating your character.

Moonkin Form- This form basically turns you into a giant owl. It massively increases your armor, which is a great thing as caster druids are very vulnerable before they get this form, gives you a spell critical aura for all allies in range and gives you a chance to regenerate mana whenever your spells critically hit

Bear Form- This form turns you into a bear, granting you bonus armor and health. In this form you no longer use mana and instead use rage (as warriors do). You gain rage whenever you hit an enemy in melee or when you take damage. Because of this your rage pool is quite unpredictable and you have to decide wisely which abilities you use

Cat Form- This form transforms you into a cat. While in this form you no longer use mana and instead use energy (as warriors do). Energy regenerates up to a maximum of 100. Every cat ability has a certain energy cost after which your energy starts regenerating again. Cat form increases your attack power and agility.

Tree of Life- This form turns you into a tree. Doing so will create an aura for all party and raid members increasing the healing they take by 6% as long as they are within range. Tree of life form also blocks most non restoration spells from being cast. Even though this might seem lackluster just picking up this talent reduces the mana cost of your heals over time by 20%. The way tree form worked was recently changed because of player versus player complications bringing it down to this form.

Aquatic Form-After a simple quest you will gain this form turning you into a seal. Note that this spell is only available while swimming. This form makes you swim much faster and no longer will you have to worry about air as you can stay under water as long as you wish.

Travel Form-This form transform you into a cheetah. It increases your movement speed by 40% making travel much less tedious or allowing you to escape dangerous situations.

Flight Form- Druids have the privilege of getting an instant cast way of flying (mounts have a short cast time). This form turns you into a crow and allows you to fly in any area which doesn’t prohibit this.
