Best Rogue Professions
Disclaimer: This is the Best Rogue Professions part of this guide, you can return to the previous page here: WoW Rogue Guide
Rogues are a melee damage class that revolves around trickery and high burst damage. Combining this with a variety of professions adds to this even more. For rogues this is especially true as there are many professions buffing up different vital aspects of the rogue including things like armor, weapons, and adding to your arsenal of trickery with professions as alchemy and engineering. As such this guide will help you make a choice for yourself.

Let’s get into the options:
Leatherworking and Skinning
Skinning and Leatherworking mesh well into the Rogue class as they use Leather armor. Skinning is very easy to level up as it usually gives you a skillpoint for every beast mob you kill (that can be skinned) which gives you plenty of resources to level leatherworking with. The power of leatherworking is that you will be able to craft yourself some solid armor while leveling, and once you hit the higher levels you’ll be able to make epic quality armor that will last you for a long time. A rogue that chooses to level leatherworking will also get access to the armor kits. These can boost the armor of specific armor slots or you could sell them on the auction house. Another nifty goodie for a rogue will be the Icescale Leg Armor that you can craft at higher levels. This is a leg enchant that increases your attack power and critical strike rating which is a must have as soon as you hit level 80. You can also make leg enchants which are more focused on Player versus Player if you choose to engage in that. As I mentioned before skinning and leatherworking are very easy to level up when combined with eachother. This makes it an excellent option for a starting rogue as it requires little to no money to get up. On top of this leveling skinning gives bonus critical strike rating as you gain more levels, while leatherworking gives you powerful bracer enchants on top of the cheap leg enchants, which other players would have to pay a reasonable amount for.
Mining and Engineering
This combination probably isn’t the best while leveling. On the other hand it does give you mining which is good for earning money. I would recommend that any rogue that follows this path starts with mining to earn some money to buy gear, and saves engineering for the point where they have enough money or could start putting it to use. The thing with engineering is that is has a lot of gadgets that are very situational, but when used in those situations are extremely powerful. The profession bonuses include a glove haste enchant, or a rocket enchant which does instant fire damage to a target. You also get a few other ones, such as the option to enchant your boots with an enchant that allows you to gain a massive movement speed bonus for a short amount of time. Besides that you also get a lot of other great benefits from engineering. These include portals all over the world, an auction house that only engineers can use in Dalaran, grenades, temporary access to bank and mail all over the world and much more. These days engineering is a powerful profession for raiders on top of providing many more other benefits. All in all it’s probably the strongest profession out there once you hit level 80 and in the end you could always drop mining for a more beneficial profession (read beneficial as in providing stat bonuses as in usually seen as a required in end game raiding).
Miscellaneous
In this section I’ll give you a few more random suggestions. Starting with Alchemy/Herbalism is a great option for those rogues wanting to get the most out of their characters. It allows you to gather herbs with Herbalism to create powerful potions and elixirs with Alchemy. These will keep you alive through health potions, while keeping you buffed up with buffs such as agility or crit boosts. Once you start making some money for yourself you will also be able to drop Herbalism for a more beneficial profession in the sense of providing stat bonuses. The benefit of alchemy is that your flasks lasts 2 hours instead of 1 and you will gain higher benefit from these flasks. Jewelcrafting is often combined with mining for cheaper leveling. You could go for this if you’re low on money but the real reason to get jewelcrafting is the stat bonuses it provides. At higher levels you will be able to make 3 unique gems that are stronger than the regular versions. These are only blue/red/yellow gems i.e. not mixed gems such as purple or orange. These allow you to customize your stats to what you need instead of being pushed into a profession bonus as with inscription or leatherworking. Another strong part of jewelcrafting is that aslong as you’re willing to put in some effort you can make some good money selling cut gems on the auction house aswell. Lastly I’d like to discuss blacksmithing as this is once again a strong profession for stat bonuses. It allows you to add extra gem slots to your gloves and bracers allowing you to choose what stats you get. Besides that you also get the ability to make some powerful weapons as you’re leveling which is key to smooth leveling for a rogue. Of course blacksmithing is quite expensive to level and as such combining it with mining for the lower levels wouldn’t be a bad idea.
In the end you will have to decide for yourself what profession combination suits your playstyle best. Once you get into raiding you will have to accept that professions such as herbalism and mining are usually frowned upon because they don’t provide bonuses to your damage through their profession perks.
