Disclaimer: This is the Best Paladin Professions part of this guide, you can return to the previous page here: WoW Paladin Guide
Paladins are one of the few classes that can specialize amongst many roles. They can be healers, tanks or melee damage dealers. These roles also point them in different profession directions depending on the preferred playstyle. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t profession that will work for all talent trees. In the rest of this article I will cover all the good professions, be it in combination or single for both leveling and end-game paladins.

Blacksmithing and Mining
This is one of those combinations that is excellent while leveling a paladin at which point you can replace mining at level 80. Mining will allow you to get the resources to level up, and create items for your own gearset. Paladins are very gear dependant, especially the quality of their weapons, which is easily lessened by spending some time on your blacksmithing. On top of this you will come across plenty of ores as you level up meaning you spend very little extra time to gather the raw materials.
Once you hit level 80 blacksmithing still has some value aswell. The main benefit is that the profession bonus you get are 2 extra sockets, allowing you to customize your bonus stats. This makes blacksmithing once again a great addition to any paladin as you’re able to use this for every talent build. Another benefit is that even in the endgame there are recipes which are still very strong. As a blacksmith you’ll be able to create these much cheaper than when you buy them from other people, or when you provide the materials. You may wish to drop mining for one of the latter mentioned professions though, as the extra stamina you get from it is only useful as a tank which kills your diversity.
Jewelcrafting and Mining
Similarly to blacksmithing you pick up mining mostly to cheapen the experience of getting jewelcrafting up. The problem with jewelcrafting is that it’s not that great for a leveling paladin. It’s very expensive to level as it doesn’t just require ore, it also requires gems, which you won’t be able to obtain unless you go out and mine A LOT. The upside is that jewelcrafting allows you to fill up your jewellery slots with great items which is very hard to do until you hit the higher levels, giving you a solid advantage.
Jewelcrafting’s biggest boon is that it’s very powerful at the higher levels. Not only will you be able to make your own gems, saving you money and making you independent, you’re also able to use the jewelcrafter only gems. These give you bonus stats in any pure color (like red and blue) allowing you to customize your stats quite well.
Engineering
Engineering can once again be combined with mining while leveling as it’ll save you a lot of money. Usually this profession is considered as the gimmick profession without many uses, but that has changed since wrath of the lich king. The glove enchants that are unique to engineers are very strong for the tanking, healing or damage dealing paladin. On top of this the nitro boosts which give you a big speed boost for a short amount of time is amazing in so many situations. Besides that you also get many nifty gadgets such as portals all around the world, portable vendor/repair robots, portable mail/bank and an auction house in Dalaran (the main city in Northrend). If you’re looking for some fun from your professions engineering is the way to go.
Mining/Skinning
This combination is only recommended while leveling. It allows you to gather resources for other people, meaning you can sell them on the auction house. If you’re more interested in getting money and spending it on gear upgrades as you please this is a superb alternative to blacksmithing/mining. The disadvantage is that the profession bonuses from these two are pretty weak, meaning it won’t be appreciated in raids at all.
Raiding Professions
All in all there are quite a few good professions. However some of them don’t provide good stat bonuses and as such they’re not that desired for raiding paladins. I’ll give you a rundown of any good professions per spec if you wish to raid: Holy – Blacksmithing, Jewelcrafting, Engineering Retribution – Blacksmithing, Jewelcrafting, Engineering Protection – Blacksmithing, Jewelcrafting, Engineering, Enchanting
Combining any of these will give you a solid profession to raid with. If you’re looking to play multiple specs you can simply look which of them overlap and pick like that.
